Michael J. Sullivan
About The Author
Michael J. Sullivan is a contemporary American author of epic fantasy. He cites the following major influences on his writing: plotting from Tolkien, setting from Steinbeck, brevity from Hemingway, characterization from Stephen King, fun from J. K. Rowling, trusting the reader from Khaled Hosseini, and character descriptions from Ayn Rand.
After writing thirteen novels, and spending a decade pursuing traditional publishing, Michael quit creative writing altogether. He returned from his hiatus another decade later, but had no intention on publishing The Riyria Revelations, which had been written for his daughter and a few friends. After reading the first three books, his wife, Robin, was determined to release them to a wider audience, and the series was originally published as six books through two small presses (including an imprint she herself created). Due to the quality of Michael’s writing, and Robin’s marketing and production abilities, the books eventually found their places on a number of best-seller lists, and as soon as the blogging community came across them, positive reviews flooded in. Recently Orbit (fantasy imprint of big-six Hachette Book Group) has purchased the publishing rights, and has re-released them as three, two-book Omnibus editions. The series abandons the recent trends in fantasy toward the lengthy, gritty, and dark, and brings the genre back to its roots and traditional elements. The banter of two unlikely heroes keep you smiling, whilst the plots draw you in and keep you guessing throughout the adventurers’ journey before twisting, turning and proving you wrong.
