Adrian Tchaikovsky

About The Author

ADRIAN TCHAIKOVSKY was born in Lincolnshire and studied zoology and psychology at Reading, before practising law in Leeds. He is a keen live role-player and occasional amateur actor and is trained in stage-fighting. His literary influences include Gene Wolfe, Mervyn Peake, China Miéville, Mary Gently, Steven Erikson, Naomi Novak, Scott Lynch and Alan Campbell.

His Shadows of Apt series has grabbed a wide readership within the fantasy genre for being familiar enough to sit on the shelves alongside Erikson, Martin, Sanderson and Co, yet having enough unique elements to differentiate from them at the same time. The world Adrian Tchaikovsky has created is one of insectile-humans who are locked in a brutal war and surrounded by steadily evolving technology.

Writing Advice

"It's possible to have a paragraph of exposition that includes wit, observation, humor, danger, or any other powerful tool you care to pull from the story telling toolbox. Make it interesting just not in what it conveys, but how it is conveyed."
